Ah, butter...we have a very good relationship these days. It's one of my favourite ingredients to cook with because it makes everything that much more delicious. Pancakes, muffins, banana bread, leafy greens, mushies, pumpkin scones...you name it, it goes almost too well with butter. So now we've dived right into that...you may be wondering, what's ghee got to do with all of this? Well, ghee is almost like butters' better looking, extra talented alter-ego. It's the super healing, Ayurvedic ingredient that is the absolute best to cook with and unlike butter, it won't burn. We've decided to cook with ghee because unlike a bunch of our much loved cooking oils, it won't turn rancid over high heat.
What You'll Need;
- 2-3 blocks of organic grass fed butter
To begin, preheat your oven to 150 degrees. Unwrap your butter and place it in a large baking dish. Place your butter in the oven for about 10-12 minutes, until it is completely melted. Then, remove the butter from the oven and set aside to cool slightly for 10 minutes. Once the the milk solids have settled to the bottom, begin pouring the liquid gold into jars. Once you get closer to the bottom, use a spoon to scoop up the last golden drops and discard the white milk solids. That's it! Now you've got yourself some gut loving ghee ready for any occasion! Ghee lasts about a month open in the fridge.
